The Museum Shop--A Museum Within the Museum

Our museum shop offers an opportunity to experience nihonga in a more relaxed setting. As another museum within the museum, it offers a variety of fine art gifts. Scenes throughout the seasons depicted in nihonga, the delicate yet enthralling colors of the pigments, the touch and texture of washi paper--our director, Taeko Yamazaki, has directed the design of museum goods to express the special qualities of the Yamatane Museum of Art collection. The shop's location between galleries makes it easy to drop by in the course of viewing an exhibition. We hope you will enjoy shopping here as you savor the echoes of works in the collection.

Cafe Tsubaki--A Delightful Part of Your Museum Experience

Cafe Tsubaki ("Cafe Camellia"), in the first floor lobby, derives its name from Hayami Gyoshū's Camellia Petals Scattering, an Important Cultural Property and a popular part of the Yamatane collection. The cafe, a sunny space, offers a view of the ginkgo tree-lined avenue outside. The menu offers special Japanese and Western sweets and as well as light meals and original beverages. Above all, our wagashi, Japanese sweets, are Cafe Tsubaki originals, based on selecting motifs--flowers, fruit, and animals--from the works in each exhibition and specially ordering them from Kikuya, a confectionary with a long and distinguished history in Aoyama, Tokyo. The tranquil atmosphere of our cafe, with furniture by Italy's Cassina IXC., is a delightful place to relax after taking in the works on exhibit in our museum.

*Visitors may enjoy the cafe without admission to the museum.
Wagashi may also be purchased to take home. And please feell free to use our cafe for a meeting or tea gathering.
